Contrary to a few years ago, if you are looking to purchase a smartphone, there are many options to chose from these days including the LG Optimus One P500, a low budget smartphone that offers many features. On the other hand, this phone doesn’t give you the same level of performance as most higher priced smartphones. If you’re just looking for a good basic phone that also makes it easy to surf online, though, you’ll probably be quite happy with the LG Optimus One P500.

While it currently uses the Android 2.2 operating system, the LG Optimus One P500 is due for an upgrade soon. About to be released at the time of this writing is the Androids new 2.3 OS also known as Gingerbread. You can upgrade if you want if you buy a phone that still uses 2.2. Waiting to purchase a phone with the new OS installed is also a choice you have. It will probably offer a variety of minor changes and improvements. Because the Gingerbread OS hasn’t been officially released yet, the reviews will have to wait, but many are hoping it will have the improvements needed to take the LG Optimus One P500 phone to the next level of smartphone. If you’re using the Sprint network in the U.S., you won’t be able to find the LG Optimus One P500, at least under that name, but you can get the LG Optimus S, which is the same basic phone. A good recommendation comes from PC Magazine which calls the Optimus S “the best budget Android phone we’ve seen”. Operating with the Spring ID interface, this phone will allow you to download different apps and many kinds of widgets. You will find it easy to do social networking, play games or visit your favorite websites. For easy access to the content and features you use the most, you can customize your phone.

Like all smartphones, the LG Optimus One P500 allows you to play videos. The display resolution on this phone doesn’t allow support of all videos which can be a problem. You can improve video performance with the installation of the RockPlayer app. An upgraded version of this app is available for a fee, or you can install it for free if you don’t mind ads. However, there’s still the issue that the LG Optimus One doesn’t support Adobe Flash, which will limit your ability to watch certain videos as well as load flash based web pages. There is an Android app for Flash, but because it lacks the hardware specs it won’t work on this phone. If the your main use of the smartphone is to watch videos or load websites that are flash based, then this isn’t the right one to use. You will not be disappointed in the LG Optimus One P500 as long as you don’t expect it to perform the same as other phones costing double or triple the price. As well as taking care of all the basic communication capabilities you will need, this
phone also gives you the basics for web browsing, game playing and taking pictures. For the new smartphone user and the budget conscious consumer, it makes sense to choose the LG Optimus One P500.
